Appointment of a Director-General in department of interpretation and three new Heads of Representation

The European Commission decided, on Wednesday 27 January, to appoint Genoveva Ruiz Calavera as Director-General of the Directorate-General for Interpretation (SCIC).

Since 2016, Ruiz Calavera, a Spanish national, has been working as Director for the Western Balkans in the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (NEAR). The date of entry into force of this decision will be determined at a later stage.

In addition, the Commission has decided to appoint three women as Heads of Representation in Spain, Latvia and Slovenia.

María Angeles Benítez Salas will take up her position as Head of Representation in Madrid on 1 April 2021.

On 16 April 2021, Zane Petre and Jerneja Jug Jerše will start in their new functions in Riga and Ljubljana, respectively.

The Heads of Representation act as the official representatives of the Commission in the Member States, under the political authority of the President, Ursula von der Leyen. (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
