21/01/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 20 January, following an internal disciplinary process, the Renew Europe group in the European Parliament voted to expel Lithuanian MEP Viktor Uspaskich with immediate effect after his homophobic comments on social media (see EUROPE 12633/25). “There is no place for homophobia in the Renew Europe family”, the group’s president Dacian Cioloş (Romania) said in a statement. “We will not let anyone taint our fight for the fundamental values of the European Union and, in particular, for the respect for LGBTI individuals in Europe”, added Pierre Karleskind (France).
