European Parliament calls for immediate release of pro-democracy activists

On Thursday 21 January, MEPs called for the immediate and unconditional release of those arrested on National Security Law (NSL) charges and those who have taken part in peaceful demonstrations in Hong Kong in recent years, and for all charges against them to be dropped (see EUROPE B12630A5).

The authorities must respect the Rule of law, human rights, democratic principles and Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy established under the ‘one country, two systems’ principle, as enshrined...
