21/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Union expressed, on the evening of Friday 18 December, “its sincere condolences to the family of Roger Bamba”, a Guinean political activist from the opposition party UFDG who had been in pre-trial detention since 10 September in Conakry’s central prison and who died on 17 December after being transferred to hospital. “This is the third death of political opponents detained in Guinea, after those of Ibrahima Sow and Mamadou Lamarana Diallo in the last two months”, the European External Action Service (EEAS) said in a statement. The EU “urges the Guinean authorities to launch an independent investigation to clarify the causes of his death. The European Union regards respect for the Rule of law as a priority for the new presidential term and calls for the release of political detainees”, says the EEAS statement. (AN)
