15/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – Terry Reintke (Greens/EFA, Germany), MEP and co-chair of the European Parliament LGBTI Intergroup, condemned the Hungarian Parliament’s adoption on Tuesday 15 December of new measures to include provisions in the Hungarian Constitution stating that “the mother is a woman and the father is a man” and that “Hungary protects the right of children to their identity based on their sex of birth [...] “. On that basis, a law was also adopted whereby only married couples could adopt children, effectively excluding same-sex couples. Ms Reintke called on the future Portuguese Presidency of the Council to ensure that a hearing of Hungary in the General Affairs Council - as initially scheduled for 8 December - is organised as soon as possible.
