15/12/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament adopted (663 votes in favour, 17 against and 15 abstentions), on Tuesday 15 December, its position at first reading on the proposal for a regulation establishing management, conservation and control measures for fishing in the Convention Area of the Inter-American Tropical Tuna Commission. The aim of this proposal is to transpose into Union law the measures adopted by this regional fisheries organisation. The regulation covers provisions for purse seiners fishing for tropical tuna, a ban on fishing on oceanographic buoys, provisions on fishing near ‘fish aggregating devices’. It also establishes measures to protect certain marine species (oceanic sharks, silky sharks and hammerhead sharks). (LC)
