On Monday 16 November, the European Commission opened a four-week public consultation on a draft implementing regulation regarding the monitoring and reporting of CO2 emissions from new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles.
The aim of this initiative is to update the existing rules in this area, set out in Regulation (2019/631) establishing CO2 emission performance standards for these two types of vehicles, a Regulation that should also be the subject of a revision proposal next June (see EUROPE 12592/17).
The draft implementing regulation submitted for consultation thereby provides that the data being monitored must relate to actual CO2 emissions and fuel or energy consumption over the lifetime of the vehicles.
The document “also provides for the reporting by the Member States’ competent authorities of certain data recorded as part of the type-approval tests performed in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2017/1151”, detailed the Commission.
