Brussels, 17/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – In a statement issued on 16 November, 42 organisations, including the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC), expressed concern about the state of play in the ongoing World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations. This has been in the works since January 2019 and the joint declaration on electronic commerce on new rules to facilitate online trade. The signatories of the declaration are particularly concerned about international data exchanges. They consider that respect for privacy should be a priority element in future agreements concerning international data flows. According to them, the European Union is one of the WTO members pushing the negotiations towards a privacy framework. The WTO held a meeting on electronic commerce on 17 November.
