09/11/2020 (Agence Europe) – On 9 November, the EU announced €22.6 million for five new programmes through the EU Emergency Trust Fund for Africa to support stability and security in the Sahel and Lake Chad region. These funds are intended to support the fight against impunity in Burkina Faso (€10 million), to pave the way for the digitalisation of the Guinean civil registry system (€5 million), and to launch the creation of Radio Jeunesse Sahel (€2 million) in Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, and Chad. The amount of €4.5 million will support the creation of a multi-purpose squadron within the Niger National Guard to enhance security and stabilise the region. The remaining €1 million will help strengthen the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in Gambia. (CG)
