08/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 8 September, France’s Minister for the Economy Bruno Le Maire and Minister for the Ecological Transition Barbara Pompili presented the French plan to develop “decarbonised hydrogen”. It plans to allocate €7.2 billion to this sector by 2030 with the aim of reaching 6.5 GW of decarbonised hydrogen production capacity (via water electrolysis). Considering this plan to be fully in line with the European Commission’s hydrogen strategy and the Clean Hydrogen Alliance (see EUROPE 12523/1), French MEP Christophe Grudler (Renew Europe) welcomed the announcements from Paris, which, according to him, “realised the enormous potential of clean hydrogen for the future—as much for the economy, job creation, and the environment as for energy self-sufficiency”. According to Reuters, on that same day, Poland announced an investment of €33 billion in nuclear power and €29 billion in offshore wind power by 2040 so as to expedite its exit from coal. (DG)
