08/09/2020 (Agence Europe) – The video-sharing application TikTok will join the EU code of conduct against online hate. The social network, owned by the Chinese group Bytedance, is the ninth partner to join the code of conduct, launched in 2016, after Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Snapchat, Dailymotion and Jeuxvideo.com. It had already joined the EU Code of Practice against online disinformation in June (see EUROPE 12511/30). The Chinese group is currently going through an eventful period: accused of spying for Beijing by the Americans, it is currently the subject of a presidential decree forcing it to separate from its American branch. In Europe, the social network is the subject of investigations concerning its use of personal data, particularly by the French regulator, which is wondering how it should be established in the EU.
