The Covid-19 pandemic precipitated the development of cross-border e-services and, in particular, the cross-border recognition of e-prescriptions between Estonia, Finland, Croatia and Portugal.
According to the European Commission’s public health website, a medical prescription issued electronically in Croatia has been recognised since August by pharmacies in Finland and Portugal. Recognition of a prescription made in Portugal may also take place in Estonia, Finland and Croatia. A Finnish prescription is recognised in Estonia, Croatia and Portugal. And a prescription made in Estonia is recognised in Finland and Croatia.
This exchange will take place on the digital service infrastructure in the field of e-health financed by the Connecting Europe Facility. The European Commission recalls that the objective of the 22 Member States participating voluntarily in the network is to achieve an exchange of prescriptions and medical records by 2021.
