Simon Coveney does not rule out being Irish candidate for post of European Commissioner

On Monday 31 August, Irish Foreign Minister Simon Coveney did not rule out being the Irish government’s candidate for the post of European Commissioner to replace Phil Hogan, who resigned last week (see EUROPE B12546A1).

However, he asked to be convinced that his candidacy brings “significant value” to Ireland’s chances of securing a significant portfolio, according to the Irish press.
