31/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The spokesperson of the European External Action Service welcomed, on Friday 31 July, the release of six members of the Baha’i community by the Ansar Allah movement in Yemen. “This gesture is a step in the right direction, which contributes to building confidence and bringing closer the resumption of the peace process in Yemen”, he said in a statement. The spokesperson explained that “no one should be persecuted on the basis of their political beliefs or affiliations”, recalling that freedom of thought, conscience and religion is a fundamental right that should be guaranteed in all circumstances, in accordance with the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which Yemen has signed and ratified. He called on all parties to replicate these gestures of goodwill and end the conflict. (CG)
