28/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – Dutch MEP Sophie in 't Veld(Renew Europe) sent a written question to the Commission on Monday 27 July asking how it currently assesses Member States' efforts to ensure that there are enough staff in asylum services to properly implement the rules. Do Member States make enough people available to ensure that asylum procedures are properly conducted? Are the holding centres for asylum seekers up to standard? These are some of the questions that the honorary member asked in order to get those answers before the Commission presents its Pact on Asylum and Migration in September. It should be noted that Italy has sent a new request for assistance to the Commission to distribute among Member States several hundred migrants landed in Lampedusa, the Commission said on Tuesday 28 July.
