The EU is continuing to deliver medical supplies and personal protective equipment worldwide as part of its response to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, Slovakia responded to a request for assistance from Kenya by sending 20,000 masks, 50,000 test kits, hand sanitiser and laboratory supplies, announced the European Commission on Tuesday 28 July.
Upon its return, the Slovak flight will repatriate EU citizens stranded in Kenya as a result of the pandemic.
In addition, along with EU support, France is sending medical supplies and equipment to Bangladesh, Ecuador and El Salvador this week. Any country in need may request assistance from the EU Civil Protection Mechanism.
The Emergency Response Coordination Centre (ERCC) of the European Commission is responsible for coordinating the process of matching offers with requests for assistance.
During this pandemic, the EU Civil Protection Mechanism has so far coordinated the provision of assistance to 24 countries, including seven EU Member States. (Original version in French by Aminata Niang)
