According to a report that the European Commission published on 23 July, EU27 agricultural trade slowed down some in April 2020 due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic.
The report on EU agricultural trade for the January–April 2020 period shows that exports and imports of agricultural products fell 9% and 5%, respectively.
Nevertheless, the figures for all EU27 agricultural trade during the first four months of 2020 (including exports and imports) were 3.8% higher than in the same period in 2019 and reached a value of €104.3 billion. EU agri-food exports during this period amounted to €61.9 billion (an increase of 4.8% compared to the same period in 2019), and imports, €4.4 billion (an increase of 2.3%).
Exceptionally high demand for pigmeat led to an increase in the value of EU exports to China, which rose by €1.65 billion compared to January–April 2019. Wheat, offal, and baby food are among the other EU agri-food products most in demand. Link to the report: https://bit.ly/2OZafEP (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
