Member States allow Eurojust to take decisions by videoconference in cases of force majeure

22/07/2020 (Agence Europe)On Wednesday 22 July, the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Governments of the Member States (Coreper) gave the green light to amendments proposed by the Eurojust College to its rules of procedure to allow the agency to take decisions by videoconference in exceptional circumstances (see EUROPE 12529/10). These amendments aim to “ensure smooth decision-making processes, business continuity and institutional stability during the Covid-19 pandemic or any future 'force majeure' preventing the Eurojust College from holding physical meetings”, explained the acting Eurojust spokesperson. This possibility extends to the election of the President of Eurojust and the Vice-Presidents, which could therefore be done by electronic voting. In fact, elections are scheduled for this autumn. The implementing act of the EU Council will be adopted by written procedure. (MF)
