22/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 22 July, Member States' ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) gave the green light to the agreement reached at the end of June (see EUROPE 12513/19) between representatives of the European Parliament and the Croatian Presidency of the EU Council on the proposal for a regulation on the establishment of a single resolution and recovery framework for authorised central counterparty clearing houses (CCPs) in the EU. The agreement broadly maintains the structure of the Commission's proposal (see EUROPE 11677/8) in three stages, i.e.: - the development of preventative resolution and recovery plans; - the potential for competent authorities to intervene in CCP operations when their viability is at risk; - the activation of resolution plans. The negotiators also agreed on a closed list of resolution tools. The agreement still needs to be confirmed by the European Parliament. (MF)
