22/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 22 July that it would co-finance up to 100 million euros an appeal by the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovation (CEPI) to support the rapid development of vaccines against Covid-19. These funds will be mobilised by the EU under the Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme: they should finance development activities, but not the manufacturing phase of vaccines. This support is part of the Commission’s commitment to invest one billion euros in Horizon 2020, the institution recalled in a press release. In addition, more than 15 billion euros have been pledged to date for universal access to tests, treatments and vaccines against the Covid-19 epidemic (see EUROPE 12516/4). (AC)
