Analysis finds that tax optimisation of multinationals undermines global government revenues

08/07/2020 (Agence Europe)The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) released statistical data on 8 July that provides information on the taxation and global economic activities of nearly 4,000 multinational enterprises. This data reveals, among other things, the existence of a discrepancy between the location where they declare their profits, and the location where they actually carry out their economic activities. This publication is part of the fight against the tax planning strategies employed by multinational enterprises, which exploit loopholes and differences in international tax rules to evade tax, says the OECD website. The analysis also revealed that corporate income tax remains an important source of government revenue for countries around the world, particularly for developing countries.
