08/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission stated in a press release that, on 7 and 8 July, forty-nine unaccompanied minors left the camps on the Greek islands for transfer to Portugal and Finland. Later this month, more young unaccompanied asylum seekers will be transferred to Belgium (18), France (50), Germany (106), Slovenia (4) and Lithuania (2). The voluntary programme, which was launched by the Commission at the beginning of March, involves taking responsibility for 1,600 unaccompanied minors in the Greek camps. A dozen countries have volunteered. The Commission also stated that it had received commitments to take 2,000 minors. There are currently 5,200 unaccompanied minors in Greece. (SP)
