On Tuesday, 7 July, the European Commission launched a public consultation on the revision of the Directive on Security of Network and Information Systems (the NIS Directive). This step completes the feedback mechanism on a preliminary impact evaluation, which was started a few weeks ago (see EUROPE 12516/12).
The NIS Directive (2016/1148) is the first horizontal internal market instrument that aims to improve the resilience of networks and systems in the EU against cybersecurity risks (see EUROPE 11347/8).
The preliminary impact evaluation envisaged several options—the most extreme of which (option 4) proposed streamlining procedures, including new sectors or services, and providing for new measures for information sharing.
“This consultation is an opportunity for stakeholders to inform the Commission on the state of the cybersecurity preparedness of companies and organisations and to propose ways to further improve it”, commented Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton.
The impact study is open until 2 October 2020. Link: https://bit.ly/2ZGOtdQ (Original version in French by Sophie Petitjean)
