Green light for conditional approval of antiviral drug Remdesivir in EU

03/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission authorised on Friday 3 July the conditional approval of the antiviral drug Remdesivir (see EUROPE 12519/2). This drug is the first one authorised in the European Union to treat Covid-19. Experts believe it is effective and has few side effects, although further testing during treatments is still needed. Permitted through a fast-track procedure, this conditional authorisation comes only one week after a positive recommendation from the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and after approval by the Member States. “We grant this authorisation less than one month after the application has been filed.
