24/06/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission opened on Wednesday 24 June an examination procedure on trade barriers put in place by Saudi Arabia on the import of ceramic tiles. European industry has lodged a complaint about two technical regulations on the production of these products, adopted by Riyadh in 2019. These include the obligation to obtain the Saudi Arabian quality mark indicating the conformity of the products with the technical requirements. However, the procedures for obtaining it are opaque and cumbersome, the complaint points out, and European manufacturers have so far only been issued a limited number of certificates of conformity. The Commission will conduct investigations to examine the complaint. Its report on the results of the examination procedure will be published approximately 5 months later. (HD)
