On 10 June the European Commission announced the mobilisation of €55.1 million from the EU Trust Fund for Syrian refugees and vulnerable people in Jordan and Lebanon, to fight the Covid-19 pandemic.
Lebanon will receive €34.6 million, including €10 million to ensure the distribution of drinking water from the municipal network, €10 million for the medical management of mild cases in light of the pandemic, €6 million for essential hygiene kits and infection prevention and control kits in informal settlements and for vulnerable Lebanese. Five million euros will go to the Lebanese Red Cross and €3.6 million will support ongoing health and social protection for Palestinian refugees from Syria and host communities.
Jordan will be allocated €20.1 million. Eleven million euros will contribute to the national coronavirus response plan, in particular for the procurement of medical equipment. Four million euros will support essential water and sanitation services and the provision of hygiene kits in refugee camps and for vulnerable host communities. Also, €3.6 million will reinforce ongoing health and social protection for Palestinian refugees from Syria and hosting communities. Finally, €1.5 million will continue to equip three emergency departments in hospitals to face the pandemic. (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
