28/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 May, MEPs from the European Parliament Committees on Economic and Monetary Affairs (ECON) and the Environment (ENVI) took a step closer to adopting the regulation laying the foundation for the taxonomy for sustainable finance. By 96 votes to 29, with 7 abstentions, they adopted a recommendation proposing that, when it meets in plenary session, the European Parliament should confirm the Council of the EU's position as adopted at first reading in mid-April (see EUROPE 12468/30), without amending it, as it reflects the agreement reached between the European Parliament and the Council of the EU in December 2019 (see EUROPE 12392/14). The final plenary vote is expected to take place in June. The taxonomy on climate change mitigation and adaptation is expected to be in place by the end of the year, so that it can be fully implemented by the end of 2021. (MF)
