28/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, expressed regret on Thursday 28 May about the US decision the day before not to extend the derogations that still allowed projects related to Iran’s civilian nuclear programme. “The Iranian nuclear agreement (JCPOA) remains essential to ensure the peaceful nature of Iran’s nuclear programme. This is why I have to regret the [American] decision not to prolong the waivers for JCPOA-related nuclear projects”, he told the UN Security Council. As coordinator of the Joint Committee, Mr Borrell expressed his determination to do his utmost to ensure full and effective implementation of the agreement, and in particular to ensure that Iran again fully respects its commitments under the agreement.
