25/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 25 May, the EU Council adopted two new temporary measures to support transport companies. One aims to relax the rules on air services (licensing of air carriers, traffic rights, ground handling services), the other extends the deadline for transposition of the rail safety and interoperability directives to 31 October. These measures had been presented by the Commission as part of an “emergency package for the transport sector” on 29 April (see EUROPE 12477/5) and then were voted on in the European Parliament on 15 May (see EUROPE 12488/10). They will enter into force on the day following their publication in the Official Journal of the EU, scheduled for 27 May. The other two proposals in the package were adopted by the EU Council last week (see EUROPE 12491/6). (AC)
