25/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) published their guidelines on air passenger health safety on Wednesday 20 May (see EUROPE 12489/8). These recommendations, which are addressed to airport managers, airlines, and crew members, highlight various hygiene measures and respect for physical distance in airports and aircraft. Contrary to the European Commission’s suggestion, EASA and ECDC are calling on operators to leave at least one empty seat between each passenger, to increase the distance between seats, or to leave every other row empty “where allowed by passenger load, cabin configuration, and mass and balance requirements”.
