ESA awards contracts to study future EGNOS upgrades in aeronautics

19/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday, 18 May, Thales Alenia Space announced that the European Space Agency (ESA) awarded the space company two contracts regarding EGNOS. The press release indicates that these contracts are fully financed under the Horizon 2020 European framework programme and concern study phases on the evolution of the EGNOS European satellite navigation system. The first contract concerns possible upgrades to EGNOS aeronautical services, designed to improve landing safety in limited visibility conditions, for Europe only. The second contract will study the improvements needed to extend aeronautical services worldwide by also utilising the European satellite navigation constellation Galileo. (PH)
