19/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Tuesday, 19 May, European Commissioner for Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi announced that the progress reports on candidate countries would be published in the autumn. These reports were originally scheduled to be published in May, but their publication is going to be postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic—a matter on which the European Commission has been working “day and night”. In the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs, he explained, “We will quickly come with the traditional package [on enlargement] in the autumn—I hope in September”. According to the commissioner, the negotiating frameworks for EU accession negotiations for North Macedonia and Albania would be published in June, as scheduled, accompanied by an update on the progress in both countries. The economic and investment plan for the Western Balkans could be presented in September (see EUROPE 12482/21). (CG)
