Five Star Movement MEPs call for rejection of ‘tourism corridors’ between Member States

18/05/2020 (Agence Europe)In a letter to Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday, 16 May, seven Italian MEPs called on the EU to “block any form of ‘tourism corridors’ between Member States”. The non-attached MEPs, who are members of the Five Star Movement (M5S), fear that the recent European guidelines on the return to free movement (see EUROPE 12486/9) could pave the way for the signing of internal bilateral agreements “against the principles of the internal market” that could “penalise certain Member States”. They recall that, in its recommendations, the Commission recommended that borders should be reopened between States with similar epidemiological situations as a first step. The possibility of setting up ‘tourism corridors’ was discussed at the videoconference of Ministers of Tourism in April (see EUROPE 12475/1). Read the letter: https://bit.ly/2ThiYEI (AC)
