18/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On 26 May, the Hungarian parliament will be called upon to end the special powers given to Viktor Orbán’s government, the government announced on 18 May, according to Reuters. The government is therefore aiming to end the emergency measures by the beginning of June. Government spokesman Gergely Gulyas explained that passage of the law, which will be submitted on May 26, would take a few days. The Commission had hitherto taken the view that Hungary was the country with the most problematic emergency measures because they lack a time limit, but that it could not open an infringement. When contacted, the Commission indicated that it did not wish to comment on these announcements. “Our position is well known: we are evaluating the emergency measures in all Member States and will continue to do so until they are all lifted”.
