European Parliament gives go ahead for one-year extension of EU-Mauritania fisheries agreement

14/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 13 May, MEPs approved a report by Clara Aguilera (S&D, Spain) regarding the agreement to extend current fishing opportunities for the EU fleet in Mauritania by one year (575 votes in favour, 58 against and 57 abstentions), pending the completion of negotiations for a new fisheries partnership agreement (see EUROPE 12473/12). This agreement is the most important fisheries agreements concluded with a non-Member State. The annual financial contribution paid by the EU amounts to €61.625 million for a maximum period of one year. (LC)
