05/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Investment in gas development and a new generation of gas technologies must be an integral part of the post-Covid-19 recovery plan, said Eurogas, an organisation representing the European gas industry, in a statement issued on 5 May. For Philippe Sauquet, President of Eurogas, banking on renewable and decarbonated natural gas as part of the recovery will ensure a reliable energy supply, support a resilient energy system and achieve the objective of carbon neutrality by 2050, while guaranteeing jobs for all Europeans. In order to decarbonise its energy system, the EU "must accelerate the development of the new generation of gas technologies" such as electrolysers for hydrogen production and anaerobic digesters for biogas production, the organisation adds.
