04/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston has brought two actions before the EU Council and the Court of Justice of the European Union seeking to overturn the EU Council's decision to replace her with a Greek candidate before the end of her term of office in October 2021, The Guardian reported on Friday 1 May. Ms Sharpston invokes the independence of the judiciary and the irremovability of members of the Court. On the eve of Brexit, at the end of January, the Court announced the departure of the three British judges - the judge sitting at the Court and the two judges sitting at the General Court of the EU - and the continuation of Ms Sharpston in her post until her successor was appointed (see EUROPE 12416/10).
