04/05/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 4 May, the European Commission and the European GNSS Agency (GSA), the agency responsible for satellite radio navigation and Galileo, announced that they planned to develop a mobile application called Galileo Green Lane. The application uses Galileo's positioning services to monitor and facilitate the free movement of freight on the ‘green lanes’ (see EUROPE 12452/14), in order to reduce waiting times at internal land borders and facilitate the movement of essential goods. The application provides a real-time display of all border crossings and provides regular updates on the status of traffic flows. The application has already been tested at border crossings in Hungary and the Czech Republic. Other countries, including France, Greece, Italy, Romania and Spain, are about to begin testing, the GSA says. (PH)
