MEPs approve tyre labelling agreement at second reading

29/04/2020 (Agence Europe)On Tuesday 28 April, the European Parliament’s Industry, Research and Energy Committee (ITRE) approved at second reading (71 votes in favour, 0 against and 5 abstentions) the agreement with the Council of the European Union on the revision of tyre labelling rules (1222/2009) (see EUROPE 12370/8). Validated by the EU Council at first reading on 25 February (see EUROPE 12433/12), the agreement lays down new rules aimed at making tyre labels clearer for consumers with regard to fuel efficiency, wet grip, and external rolling noise. It further provides that information on snow and ice grip, as well as information on mileage and abrasion, may be added in the future through the adoption of delegated acts when valid test methods are available. The agreement still has to be validated by Parliamentary plenary. (DG)
