The Euro area annual inflation rate was 0.7% in March 2020, down from 1.2% in February, according to figures released by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Friday 17 April.
The European Union’s inflation was 1.2%, down from 1.6% in February.
The lowest annual rates were observed in Spain, Italy, Cyprus and Portugal (0.1% each). The highest rates were recorded in Hungary, Poland (3.9% each) and the Czech Republic (3.6%). Inflation rose to 1.3% in Germany and 0.8% in France.
Compared with February, annual inflation fell in 26 Member States.
The biggest contributions to annual inflation in the euro area came from services (+0.60 percentage points, pp), followed by food, alcohol & tobacco (+0.46 pp), industrial goods excluding energy (+0.13 pp) and energy (-0.45 pp). (Original version in French by Mathieu Bion)
