The Conference of Presidents of the Political Groups of the European Parliament (CoP) decided on Thursday 2 April to hold an extraordinary plenary session on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 April in Brussels to continue work on measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the agenda are a debate with the EU Council and the Commission and a vote on a resolution on coordinated EU action to combat the pandemic and its consequences. Parliament is also prepared to vote on any legislative or budgetary proposal prepared by the European Commission, such as perhaps the creation of the SURE unemployment assistance instrument and/or the modification of the EU 2020 budget or the new flexibility measures in the field of cohesion policy (see other news).
On the other hand, at this stage there will be no debate on the measures introduced in Hungary under the state of emergency which are of concern to many MEPs (see EUROPE 12460/1).
The CoP has also updated the calendar of European Parliament activities to introduce additional dates for remote meetings of the European Parliament governing bodies, parliamentary committees and political groups.
