02/04/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 2 April, ETUC, BusinessEurope, CEEP and SMEUnited called on the European Commission, in a letter (https://bit.ly/3aE4W6H ), to open a discussion with the Polish government with a view to the “immediate withdrawal” of a new legal act enabling the Prime Minister to dismiss at will the members of the Social Dialogue Council during the COVID-19 pandemic. “This would help to address what we consider an unacceptable endangerment of the social partners’ autonomy”, they stressed. According to these social partners, this autonomy “is a founding element of social dialogue, guaranteed by international and European law”. They reiterated that social dialogue is a key instrument to fight against the economic and social consequences of COVID-19 and governments, all over Europe, should be supporting social partners for them to succeed in this endeavour.
