30/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – The environmental association Transport & Environment expressed concern in a press release issued on Friday 27 March about the call by car manufacturers on 25 March (as well as suppliers, dealers and tyre manufacturers) for a relaxation of targets for reducing CO2 emissions from motor vehicles. In this letter (available at: https://bit.ly/39u2xdm ), the car manufacturing industry asks the European Commission, in the light of the COVID-19 epidemic, to allow for “some adjustment [...] to the timing” for bringing their vehicles into compliance with the new European standards (see EUROPE 12086/18). For T&E, COVID-19 cannot have an impact on these objectives. On the contrary, incentives must be strengthened to redirect consumption towards electric vehicles. (PH)
