European Commission makes e-learning material available

The European Commission proposes a series of resources to facilitate e-learning during the COVID-19 crisis. This new web page hosted by the institution was launched on 30 March and is aimed at students, teachers and educators.

As the coronavirus crisis disrupts education, training and mobility opportunities in the EU and beyond, we must ensure that it does not hamper learning. This is why we have brought together a wide range of resources to support e-learning, commented”, the Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth, Mariya Gabriel. According to the seventh risk study by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, in the EU and the European Economic Area, including the United Kingdom, 27 countries have closed primary schools, 29 secondary schools and 27 universities and colleges.

The page is currently only available in English, but it should soon be translated into the other official languages of the EU. However, depending on its origin, the material may only be available in certain languages, though Commission spokesman Eric Mamer qualified.

As a follow-up, the Commission announced that the forthcoming “mid-2020 review of the Digital Literacy Action Plan will further support the development of e-learning at different levels of education in Europe”. (Original version in French by Sophie Petitjean)
