30/03/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Monday 30 March that “significant improvements” had been noted in waiting times at borders. With controls having been reintroduced to stop the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic, some drivers waited until 6 p.m. last week to be able to move from one European State to another. “We have seen waiting times of less than 15 minutes this weekend”, said Stefan de Keersmaecker, the Commission’s spokesperson for Transport, welcoming the fact that the institution’s recommendations on ‘green lanes’ (see EUROPE 12452/14) “have been respected widely”. Like the European Transport Workers’ Federation, however, several organisations have deplored the conditions under which drivers are being required to work (see EUROPE 12456/7). In France on Monday, three trade unions called on truckers to exercise their individual right of withdrawal. (AC)
