Four more Member States join cooperation on Quantum Communication Infrastructure

28/02/2020 (Agence Europe)Austria, Bulgaria, Denmark and Romania have signed the Declaration of Cooperation on the Quantum Communication Infrastructure (QCI), bringing the number of signatory Member States to 24, the European Commission announced on Friday 28 February. Welcoming the new signatures, Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton said, “Such European cooperation will be essential for the EU to be able to lead the way as a global competitor in the field of quantum technologies”. Launched at the Digital Assembly in June 2019, this initiative aims to strengthen European capabilities in quantum technologies, cybersecurity and industrial competitiveness. The ultimate goal is to develop a European QCI that would be the backbone of the European quantum internet, in order to distribute information and resources securely across Europe. (DG)
