28/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – The Federation of German Consumer Organisations (VZBV) and Volkswagen (VW) have reached an out-of-court settlement to compensate drivers affected by the September 2015 rigged engine scandal, better known as ‘Dieselgate’, announced the Brunswick Court on Friday 28 February. Thus ending the car manufacturer's mega-trial in Germany, the settlement provides for VW to pay between 1, 350 and 6, 257 euros - depending on the model and age of the car - to 260,000 consumers represented by the VZBV, i.e. a total of 830 million euros. While welcoming the news, Monique Goyens, Director General of the European Consumers' Organisation (BEUC), called on VW to also compensate European consumers who are not covered by the settlement. Consumers in Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Spain are still waiting for the results of their class actions. (DG)
