19/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – In its final report published on Wednesday 19 February, the 'Africa Transport and Connectivity Task Force' recommends, primarily, that the initiative to launch a Single African Air Transport Market (SAATM) be pursued. According to this group of African and European experts, this initiative "presents a possibility to increase connectivity, enforce social cohesion, open markets and enhance a sustainable development of African airlines". In addition to aviation, the other areas covered by the report are road safety and connectivity in Africa. Committing to implement "all the report's findings and recommendations", Transport Commissioner Adina-Ioana Vălean said: "Greener, safer and more efficient transport and mobility between both our continents opens the door to so many opportunities for Africa, our close neighbour, and for Europe."
