10/02/2020 (Agence Europe) – In view of the “serious acts of violence” caused by the decision to combine the parliamentary elections, postponed to 1 March, with a constitutional referendum in the Republic of Guinea, the EU called on Friday 7 February for an inclusive dialogue to overcome divisions. “The importance of this double timeline makes it necessary to ensure, within the framework of an inclusive dialogue, the conditions of transparency and inclusiveness, as well as respect for the framework governing the elections. Unity and peace in Guinea must prevail over partisan interests”, the spokesperson for the European External Action Service said in a statement. The EU says it is “ready to contribute to the facilitation of an inclusive dialogue, in partnership with regional and international actors”. The elections were originally scheduled for 16 February. The opposition suspects President Alpha Condé of running for a third term. (AN)
