21/01/2020 (Agence Europe) – The British government recalled, on Monday 20 January, that it would decide on the possible participation of Gibraltar in the Schengen free movement zone, reported the BBC, while the Gibraltar government expressed the wish to join the zone (see EUROPE 12407/13). This subject of mobility between Gibraltar and the rest of Spain will be addressed in the framework of future relations. “After our departure, the UK will negotiate future relations with the EU on behalf of the whole British family, including Gibraltar. Working closely together, the British and Gibraltar governments have consistently supported agreements on the border with Spain that promote fluidity and shared prosperity in the region”, said a government spokesman. Currently, 15,000 people enter Gibraltar daily from Spain to work. (SP)
